Dr. Daniel Shomper is an active performer and educator in the Washington DC/Baltimore/Annapolis area.  The Baltimore Sun praised his ‘virtuoso playing’ and complimented his ‘masterful performance’ and ‘lyrical expression.’  He is a member of the Annapolis and Alexandria Symphony Orchestras, performs regularly with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Concert Artists of Baltimore, and other local ensembles.

 

In addition to his work as an orchestral performer, he is an active chamber musician and recitalist.  He has performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center, the National Art Gallery, and the Washington Arts Club, among others.  Additionally, he has performed concerts and in prestigious music festivals in the United States and abroad, including venues in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Prague, Budapest, Helsinki, and Quebec.

 

Dr. Shomper is also a founding member of Quartet 122, a new and innovative ensemble that includes four multifaceted musicians. Their diverse backgrounds create a seamless blend of classical, jazz, Latin, and popular music. Quartet 122 simultaneously combines the esthetics of a classical chamber group with the freedom, spontaneity, and improvisation of a small jazz combo—all these elements are captured in the ensemble’s compositions, arrangements, and transcriptions. Quartet 122’s eclectic nature gives them the opportunity to deliver a unique, innovative, and highly charged concert experience.

 

Daniel is currently on faculty Washington College and at the Anne Arundel Community College, and he actively participates in musical outreach programs through the Annapolis Symphony and other programs.
